Aberdeenshire Coastal Towns Tour
On this tour of the coastal towns of Aberdeenshire, we will travel along the cliffs of northeast Scotland, visiting its fishing villages.
We will gather in front of the statue of William Wallace at the designated time. Our first destinations are the villages of Gardenstown and Crovie, situated on the red sandstone cliffs. As we drive through these towns, we will enjoy views of the Scottish countryside and learn about their history.
Next, we'll visit Pennan, an 18th-century fishing village known as the setting for the film Local Hero. Nearby, we'll find New Aberdour beach, known for its caves that served as smuggling hideouts. Here, we will explore stories of clandestine activities along Aberdeenshire's coastline.
We will stop in Fraserburgh, notable for having one of Scotland's earliest lighthouses and its history as a castle. Here, we will walk through the town, appreciating its architecture and the largest seafood port in the region.
Our journey includes a visit to Cruden Bay, where we will explore the ruins of New Slains Castle, dating back to the 16th century, offering insights into the area's past.
We will conclude our tour in the port of Collieston, where a legend about the smuggler Phillip Kennedy will be shared. After an eight-hour tour of Aberdeenshire's coastal villages, we will return to our starting point in Aberdeen.
