Trollsjön Guided Hike

If you have a passion for exploration, the hike to Trollsjön offers an exhilarating journey. Traverse 12 kilometers (7.4 miles) through the beautiful landscapes of Sweden’s Abisko.

Description

On the day of the hike, we will gather at your selected meeting point before embarking on our adventure into a peaceful forest of mountain birch. This calm setting, featuring a forest floor adorned with ferns, various mosses, and woodland flora, creates a perfect backdrop for a rejuvenating 12-kilometer (7.4-mile) trek. For nature enthusiasts, this is an ideal chance to connect with the wild!

Your guide will lead the way along the mountain trails, exposing us to multiple plant varieties and the wildlife that inhabit this thriving environment. As we ascend past the tree line, the views will dramatically shift. The dense canopy of trees will be replaced with rocky outcrops and alpine meadows, with the air becoming crisper as we reach greater heights. We will climb a total of 400 meters (1,312 feet) through stunning valleys and mountains, rewarding us with breathtaking panoramic vistas along the way. Make sure your camera is ready to capture the beauty!

Upon entering Kärkevvage, or "Stone Valley", we will discover a remarkable geological site filled with massive boulders scattered across the landscape. These gigantic stones were left behind by ancient glaciers, forming a dramatic and surreal environment. The unique charm of the valley, decorated with natural rock sculptures and formations, is sure to inspire wonder. Our guide will share insights into the geological history of the area, revealing how these intriguing features were shaped over time.

Our journey will culminate at Trollsjön, known in Sami as Rissajaure, translating to "The lake that sparkles like fire". Famous for its crystalline waters, this stunning lake allows for an unobstructed view of its depths, reaching a remarkable 36-metre (118-foot) depth. After the invigorating hike, we'll savor a delicious lunch by the lake, set against a backdrop of unspoiled nature. Those feeling adventurous can even take a refreshing plunge into the frigid waters.
