Medina Azahara Guided Tour
At the indicated time, we will meet at the Paseo de la Victoria and travel by bus to Medina Azahara, located 8 kilometres (4.9 miles) from Cordoba. Abandoned shortly after construction, the former capital of al-Andalus was discovered at the end of the 19th century. Spreading across 276 acres (112 hectares), it is one of the largest archaeological sites in Spain.
On arrival at the palace-city, we will visit the Medina Azahara Museum to learn more about the site and view a collection of pieces from the ruins.
We will then take a shuttle bus to the archaeological site for a guided tour, exploring the ten percent that has been uncovered. Our guide will share insights into the fortress, showcasing limestone walls with intricate carvings, golden ceilings, and pools of mercury that contributed to its grandeur.
Experience the 10th century as we explore various parts of the fortified city, including mosques, towers, servants' quarters, bath complexes, and aristocratic residences. At the end of the visit, we will return to the meeting point in Cordoba by bus after a total of 3.5 hours.
