San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, Guernica + Mundaka Tour

On this trip to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe and Mundaka, we will depart from Bilbao to visit Dragonstone from Game of Thrones and explore a historic town known for surfing.

Description

We will meet at the puppy floral sculpture at the Guggenheim Museum at the scheduled time and travel north for about 30 minutes to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, recognized as Dragonstone. We will climb 241 steps to the 10th-century hermitage located atop a 79 metre (259 feet) rock.

At the viewpoint near the hermitage, we will enjoy views of the Bizkaia coastline before departing San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, passing Cape Matxitxako and the town of Bermeo.

Our next stop will be Mundaka, a fishing town and popular surfing destination. We will walk towards the harbour and the Church of Santa María, and visit the Urdaibai Estuary viewpoint to see the Oca River flowing into the Cantabrian Sea.

Then, we will proceed to Guernica to learn about the Basque Country's history, including the impact of the bombing during the Spanish Civil War, and we will view a mural of one of Picasso's paintings.

Finally, we will return to Bilbao, arriving back at the meeting point after approximately 6 hours.

To visit Gaztelugatxe on controlled access days, a free ticket is required; on other days, access is free. The local tour provider will handle the booking of this ticket.
