Why Visit the Fortress of Aigues-Mortes?

Explore the stone fortress of Aigues-Mortes at your own pace and immerse yourself in the history of Medieval France. Built in the 13th century, these ramparts were the departure point for the French Crusades and are well-preserved. The fortifications include over 5,300 feet (1,634 metres) of stone walls connected by twenty towers, including the notable Tour de Saint Louise and Tour de Constance, which were used to imprison French Protestants in the 17th century.

Opening Times

The fortress is open daily at the following times:

From May 2 to August 31: 10 am to 7:00 pmFrom September 1 to April 30: 10 am to 5:30 pm

Final admission is 45 minutes before closing. Ticket office times are from 10 am to 1:00 pm and from 2 pm to 4:45 pm. These hours may be subject to change.

Special Times

On December 24 and 31, the monument closes at 2:30 pm.

Skip-the-Line

This ticket allows you to avoid queues at ticket offices, but security checks may still require waiting in line.

Admission to the Medieval towers and ramparts is free for:

Young EU residents aged 18 - 25Children under 18, regardless of nationality

Entrance is free on the first Sunday of the month from January to March and November to December, and on the 3rd weekend in September. To obtain a free admission, visit the ticket office with a certifying document of eligibility.
