Why Visit the Fortress of Aigues-Mortes?

Explore the imposing stone fortress of Aigues-Mortes at your own pace and immerse yourself in the history of Medieval France. Constructed in the 13th century, these historic ramparts were the departure point for the French Crusades and have remained well-preserved.

The fortifications consist of over 5,300 feet (1,634 metres) of walls connecting twenty towers, including the Tour de Saint Louise and the Tour de Constance , which served as prisons for French Protestants during the 17th century.

Opening Times

The fortress of Aigues-Mortes is open daily:

From May 2 to August 31: 10 am to 7:00 pmFrom September 1 to April 30: 10 am to 5:30 pm

Final admission is 45 minutes before closing. Ticket office times are from 10 am to 1:00 pm and from 2 pm to 4:45 pm. Note that these hours are flexible and subject to change.

Special Times

On December 24 and 31, the monument closes at 2:30 pm.

With this ticket, you'll avoid the queues at the ticket offices, but you will still wait in line for security checks.

Free Admission

Admission is free for the following individuals:

Young people from the EU aged 18 - 25 yearsChildren under 18 years, regardless of nationality

Free entry is available on the first Sunday of the month from January to March, November to December, and on the 3rd weekend in September. Eligible persons must present a certifying document at the ticket office to obtain free admission.
