No trip to Corsica is complete without visiting the beautiful Sanguinaires Islands. With this cruise, you will sail along the coast from Ajaccio and admire the famous red tones of the rocks.
Sanguinaires Islands Boat Cruise
The tour departs Ajaccio, heading towards the Sanguinaires Islands. The route travels west along the Corsican coast, passing the house of Tino Rossi, a notable local figure. You will also see the ‘Chapel of the Greeks’, built by refugees in the 18th century.
Upon arrival at the Sanguinaires Islands, the cruise highlights include the iconic tower of Parata, a Genoese turret established in 1608. The islands are named for their striking red-toned rocks, attributable to the prevailing jasper rock in the region.
A stop will be made on the main island of Mezumare for 1 hour, allowing time for swimming or a walk to the Alphonse Duadet lighthouse. You can also explore the ruins of a ‘lazarreto,’ a former quarantine station now home to various birds.
After approximately 3 hours, the cruise will return to the port of Ajaccio.
