Askja Volcano Day Trip

At 8 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Akureyri and travel inland to visit the Askja volcano.

During our tour, we'll enjoy the scenery of the north as we drive through the Lake Myvatn area to the Hrossaborg crater, taking the mountain road to Herðubreiðalindir, a green oasis in a barren volcanic landscape.

We'll learn about the legend of the outlaw Fjalla-Eyvindur and his connection to Herðubreiðalindir. The tour continues through Iceland's lunar-like terrain, used by NASA for astronaut training.

Upon arrival at the Askja volcano, we'll walk along the trails around its craters and lakes, stopping at Askja and Viti, the latter formed inside the crater. You can also enjoy a bath in a hot springs lagoon.

Before returning, we will visit the canyon of the dragons or Drekagil, surrounded by black walls.

Finally, we'll return to Akureyri, concluding the excursion at 8 pm.
