Make the most of your stay in Akureyri and hike the Askja volcano. We'll admire the beautiful scenery of the wildest nature in the north of Iceland.

Askja Volcano Day Trip

At 8 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Akureyri and travel inland to visit the Askja volcano.

During our tour, we'll drive through the Lake Myvatn area to the Hrossaborg crater, taking the mountain road to Herðubreiðalindir, a green oasis in the barren volcanic landscape. Along the way, we'll learn about the legend of the outlaw Fjalla-Eyvindur and explore Iceland's lunar-like terrain, which NASA used for astronaut training.

Upon arriving at the Askja volcano, we'll walk along the trails around its craters and lakes, visiting two of them: Askja and the smaller Viti, formed inside the crater. You can also enjoy a bath in a hot springs lagoon.

Before our return, we'll visit the canyon of the dragons or Drekagil, surrounded by striking black walls.

Finally, we'll return to Akureyri, concluding the excursion at 8 pm.
