Askja Volcano Day Trip

At 8 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Akureyri and travel inland to visit the Askja volcano.

During our tour, we will drive through the Lake Myvatn area to the Hrossaborg crater and take the mountain road to Herðubreiðalindir, a green oasis in a barren volcanic landscape. We will also learn about the legend of the outlaw Fjalla-Eyvindur, which led him to Herðubreiðalindir. Continuing, we will explore Iceland's lunar-like terrain, used by NASA for training.

Upon arrival at the Askja volcano, we will walk along trails surrounding its craters and lakes, stopping at Askja and Viti, the latter formed inside the crater. You will have the opportunity to bathe in a hot springs lagoon.

Before our return, we will visit the canyon of the dragons, or Drekagil, surrounded by striking black walls.

Finally, we will return to Akureyri, concluding the excursion at 8 pm.
