Askja Volcano Day Trip

At 8 am, we will pick you up from your hotel in Akureyri and travel inland to visit the Askja volcano.

During the tour, we will enjoy the scenery of the north of the country as we drive through the Lake Myvatn area to the Hrossaborg crater. We will take the mountain road leading to Herðubreiðalindir, a green oasis in a barren volcanic landscape. We will also learn about the legend of the outlaw Fjalla-Eyvindur and what led him to Herðubreiðalindir. Our journey will continue through Iceland's lunar-like terrain, which was used by NASA to train astronauts.

Upon arrival at the Askja volcano, we will walk along the trails surrounding its craters and lakes, stopping at Askja and Viti. You will have the option to enjoy a bath in a hot springs lagoon as a way to relax.

Before returning, we will visit the canyon of the dragons or Drekagil, situated between striking black walls.

Finally, we will make our way back to Akureyri, concluding the excursion at 8 pm.
