On this guided tour of Al Hoota Cave, we'll explore this natural treasure formed over millions of years, providing insight into the region's past in north-east Oman.
Tour Description
At the designated time, we'll meet at the entrance to Al Hoota Cave to begin our guided tour of this gem located at the foot of Jebel Shams, Oman’s highest mountain, which is over 2 million years old. This cave was formed through the dissolution of limestone by acidic water, and this process continues to shape the underground landscape.
The cave extends over 4.5 kilometres (2.7 miles), but only 500 metres (1,640 feet) are accessible to the public. The tour will showcase various geological formations, including stalactites, stalagmites, and columns developed over millennia.
Additionally, we will explore one of the four lakes within the cave, which measures 800 metres (2,624 feet) long and 15 metres (49 feet) deep. It is home to unique fish, and we will provide details about them during the visit. Other wildlife may include bats, arthropods, molluscs, spiders, and water beetles.
After one hour, we will conclude the tour and exit the cave.
