On this guided tour of Al Hoota Cave, we'll explore this natural treasure formed over millions of years, providing insight into the region's past in north-east Oman.

Tour Description

At the indicated time, we'll meet at the entrance to Al Hoota Cave to begin our guided tour inside this remarkable location, situated at the foot of Jebel Shams, Oman’s highest mountain. The cave is over 2 million years old and was formed by the dissolution of limestone by acidic water, a process that continues to shape its underground landscape.

The Al Hoota Cave spans 4.5 kilometres (2.7 miles), but only 500 metres (1,640 feet) are accessible to the public. This short tour will introduce you to various geological formations, including stalactites, stalagmites, and columns that have taken millions of years to develop.

We will also encounter one of the four lakes in the cave, measuring 800 metres (2,624 feet) long and 15 metres (49 feet) deep, which hosts a unique fish species. During our visit, we may also observe bats, arthropods, molluscs, spiders, and water beetles.

After an hour, we'll conclude the tour and exit the cave.
