On this guided tour of Al Hoota Cave, we will explore this natural site formed over millions of years, providing insight into the region's past in north-east Oman.

Tour Description

We will meet at the entrance of Al Hoota Cave at the specified time to start the guided tour of this natural wonder, located at the foot of Jebel Shams, the highest mountain in Oman. The cave is more than 2 million years old, created by the dissolution of limestone by acidic water, a process that continues to shape its underground landscape.

The Al Hoota cave extends over 4.5 kilometres (2.7 miles), with 500 metres (1,640 feet) accessible to the public. This tour will guide you through an underground landscape featuring geological formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, and columns formed over millions of years.

We will also discover one of the four lakes within the cave, which is 800 metres (2,624 feet) long and 15 metres (49 feet) deep, home to unique fish and potentially bats, arthropods, molluscs, spiders, and water beetles. After approximately one hour, we will conclude the tour as we exit the cave.
