Aliano Private Tour
At your chosen time, we'll meet on Via Martiri d'Ungheria to start our private tour of Aliano. This village is perched on a hill at 1640 feet (500 metres) and overlooks the Agri Valley, known for its natural environment and history.
During our tour, we'll stroll through the old town of Aliano to admire the Church of San Luigi Gonzaga and traditional houses. We'll also visit several lookout points with views of the area's spectacular ravines.
We will visit the Museum of Rural Civilization for a better understanding of daily life in this village in the province of Matera. In the museum, we'll see ancient farming tools, items used in oil production and milking, a rural dwelling, and other exhibits.
As we walk through Aliano, we'll see the façade of Carlo Levi's house, where he lived during the Fascist regime. We'll discuss why he was held captive in this town and some of his works like Christ Stopped at Eboli. Our final stop will be the tomb of Carlo Levi, where he is laid to rest.
We'll conclude the tour at the starting point or a central location of your choice.
