Alleppey is a city known for its canals and vibrant flavors. Discover the gastronomy of Kerala on this food tour of the southern Indian city.
Alleppey Food Tour Itinerary
On the day of your tour, meet your guide at the Mullackal Temple to begin your walking tour around the best foodie spots in Alleppey, also known as Alappuzha. Prepare to immerse yourself in the flavors of the so-called Venice of the East.
As you stroll through the city center, you will visit some of the oldest established food stores in the area. Here, you'll sample savory snacks typical of Kerala, including idiyappam, dhokla, and Keralan halwa.
After trying halwa, you'll have a chance to learn how it is made in a local shop. The ingredients include sugar, nuts, and spices, offering a taste of India.
Next, you will stop at one of Alleppey’s local cafes for a cup of coffee while enjoying views of the city from a window seat.
The tour continues to a store specializing in Mukhwas, a traditional Indian after-meal snack used as a mouth freshener. It is made from a blend of seeds and nuts, including fennel, anise, coconut, and sesame seeds.
The final highlight of your tour will be sampling chaat, a typical savory snack from street food stalls across India. Bon appetit!
