Almendralejo Guided Tour

We'll meet at the selected time at the Palacio de Monsalud to begin this guided tour of Almendralejo, the capital of the Extremadura region of Tierra de Barros.

We will first admire the impressive palace, one of the most emblematic buildings of Almendralejo, connected to the famous writer José de Espronceda.

Next, we will visit the Huerta Montero Prehistoric Sepulchre, a unique burial site over 4600 years old, used for collective burials and worship in the Copper Age.

We will then enter the historic center of Almendralejo to learn about its history, founded by the Order of Santiago after the reign of Al Andalus. We will visit the Gothic Church of Nuestra Señora de la Purificación, observing its Plateresque façade and Herrerian-style tower, along with the Crucified Christ of Juan de Ávalos and the modern replica of the main altarpiece destroyed during the Civil War.

We will return to the Monsalud Palace before visiting the Teatro Carolina Coronado, a modernist theater dedicated to the poet. The three-hour tour concludes here.
