Explore Almeria's most important monument and the largest Arab citadel in Spain. Discover the historic secrets of the 10th century fortress, the Alcazaba.
Tour Details
Meet your guide at the entrance of the Alcazaba of Almería. Built in the 10th century and expanded by the Catholic Monarchs, this fortress features a combination of Islamic and Christian elements. The tour begins at the Puerta del Viento, or Gate of Justice, followed by a visit to the gardens of the first enclosure to learn about the hydraulic system that supplied water to the citadel. Climbing the garden steps, we will reach the Muro de la Vela, known for its historical bell for alerts in Almeria.
Next, we will enter the second enclosure to explore the Caliphal cisterns, pass through the Hermitage Gate, and visit the troop baths, Arab houses, and remains of the Muslim king's palace. We will proceed to the Christian castle, and enjoy views of the Mediterranean, gardens of La Hoya, the ancient city walls, the Castle of San Cristóbal, and the Sacred Heart of Jesus monument. The tour lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours.
