Tour Details

At the designated time, we'll meet at the Piazza Duomo, marking the beginning of our guided tour of Altamura. We will immerse ourselves in this town on the Murge plateau.

We will first observe the facade of the Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, featuring Romanesque-Gothic architecture and its two bell towers. Next, we will walk to Pontrelli Quarry, also known as Dinosaur Quarry, where footprints of over 200 species were discovered.

Our journey continues in the historical centre, including the house of musician Saverio Mercadante and the San Nicola dei Greci Church. We will discuss the history of Altamura and see remains of Ciccillo, who lived over 150,000 years ago.

To conclude, we will visit a typical bakery to taste authentic Altamura bread, renowned globally for its unique flavor.
