On this free tour of Altea, we'll discover this Mediterranean town known for its white houses and historical significance.
Description
We will meet at the scheduled time in front of the Altea City Hall to begin our exploration of the town's attractions. We will learn about the origin of the town's name.
Next, we will head towards the Bellagaurda neighbourhood, featuring picturesque streets adorned with bougainvilleas. Our first stop will be Plaza de la Canterería, the site of Altea's first neighborhood.
We will continue to the area with 18th-century houses that have been converted into hotels, including Ca Salva, the first built outside the walls. Ascending to Plaza del Agua, we will view the Medieval water mill that has served the town since the 15th and 16th centuries.
The tour continues up Costera del Mestre la Música with its 255 steps to the Portal Vell, created in the 16th century. From Portal Nou, we will access the fishing neighborhood, imagining the 19th-century fishermen.
We will enjoy panoramic views from the Baluarte del Común, explore the Glorieta de Francisco Martínez, and reach Casa Cervantes. At Plaza de la Iglesia, we will admire Nuestra Señora del Consuelo Church and its domes.
Finally, we will stop at the Cronista de España Viewpoint for views of Altea and conclude the tour at Calle San Miguel, where you can explore shops and artisan workshops. Until next time!
