On this free tour of Altea, we'll explore this Mediterranean town known for its white houses and bays historically used by pirates.
Description
We will meet in front of the Altea City Hall at the scheduled time to begin our tour. The origin of the town's name will be revealed. Our first destination will be the neighbourhood of Bellagaurda, characterized by picturesque white streets with bougainvilleas and flowers, stopping at the Plaza de la Canterería, which reconstructs Altea's first neighborhood.
Next, we will visit the 18th-century houses, now charming hotels like Ca Salva. We will ascend to the Costera Pont del Montcau to reach the Plaza del Agua, a hub for cultural events, and view the Medieval water mill used since the 15th and 16th centuries.
The tour continues up the Costera del Mestre la Música with its 255 steps to the Portal Vell, the original entrance built in the 16th century. We will gain access to the fishing neighbourhood through Portal Nou, imagining 19th-century fishermen.
From Baluarte del Común, we will enjoy panoramic views from Calpe to Benidorm. We will then explore the Glorieta de Francisco Martínez and ascend Calle de Santa Bárbara to Casa Cervantes. In the lively Plaza de la Iglesia, we will admire Nuestra Señora del Consuelo Church and its distinctive domes.
The tour concludes at the Cronista de España Viewpoint with impressive views of Altea, finishing at Calle San Miguel for shopping and artisan workshops.
