On this free tour of Altea, we'll discover this Mediterranean town with its white houses and bays that served as a refuge for pirates.
Description
At the scheduled time, we'll meet in front of the Altea City Hall to explore the town's attractions, including the origin of its name. We'll proceed to the neighborhood of Bellagaurda, known for its white streets adorned with bougainvilleas and flowers. Our first stop will be at the Plaza de la Canterería, which recreates Altea's first neighborhood.
Next, we'll visit the neighborhood where 18th-century houses have been transformed into hotels such as Ca Salva. We’ll ascend the Costera Pont del Montcau to reach Plaza del Agua, the site of cultural events, and view the Medieval water mill active since the 15th and 16th centuries.
The tour continues up the Costera del Mestre la Música with its 255 steps to the Portal Vell, the original 16th-century entrance. The Portal Nou leads to the fishing neighborhood of Altea, where we’ll envision 19th-century fishermen at work.
From the Baluarte del Común, we'll enjoy panoramic views from Calpe to Benidorm. We'll visit the Glorieta de Francisco Martínez and proceed up Calle de Santa Bárbara to Casa Cervantes. At Plaza de la Iglesia, we will admire Nuestra Señora del Consuelo Church and its iconic domes.
The tour concludes at the Cronista de España Viewpoint with impressive views of Altea, ending at Calle San Miguel for shop and artisan workshop exploration.
