Palia Stata Hiking Excursion

We will meet in front of the parking lot of Vigla Hotel before heading to the bay of Aegiali to begin our hiking tour around Amorgos.

The hike will start along the Palia Strata trail, located at an altitude of 400 meters (1,312 ft), covering approximately 10 km (6.2 miles) along part of the east coast of Amorgos. We will make various stops to enjoy the island's landscapes and views of the Aegean Sea.

The first stop will be Asfontilitis, an abandoned settlement known for its wells and white houses, where we will see the exterior of Aghios Nikolaos, an orthodox church in the countryside. Next, we will visit Kapsala, an area of caves where monks previously resided. Finally, we will stop at the Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa, the second oldest monastery in Greece, notable for its spectacular cliffside views.

The hiking tour will conclude in Chora, the capital of Amorgos, where we will have a break at a traditional restaurant, allowing you to purchase food if desired. We will return to the meeting point after 8-8.5 hours of excursion.
