On this hiking tour in Amorgos, we'll follow the Palia Strata route.

Palia Stata Hiking Excursion

At the indicated time, we'll meet in front of the parking lot of Vigla Hotel to head towards the bay of Aegiali. From there, we'll start our hiking tour around Amorgos.

We will hike along the Palia Strata trail, located at an altitude of 400 meters (1,312 ft) that runs along the east coast of Amorgos. The trail spans about 10 km (6.2 miles), with stops to enjoy the island's landscapes and views of the Aegean Sea.

Our first stop will be in Asfontilitis, an abandoned rural settlement with wells and white houses, where we will observe the exterior of Aghios Nikolaos, an orthodox church in the area.

Next, we will visit Kapsala, an area of caves formerly inhabited by monks. The tour will conclude at the Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa, the second oldest monastery in Greece, known for its spectacular panoramic views from the cliff.

The hiking tour will end in Chora, the capital of Amorgos, where we will take a break at a traditional restaurant to purchase food if desired. We will then return to the meeting point, completing the excursion after approximately 8-8.5 hours.
