On this hiking tour in Amorgos, we'll follow the Palia Strata route.

Palia Stata Hiking Excursion

At the indicated time, we'll meet in front of the parking lot of Vigla Hotel to head towards the bay of Aegiali. From this location, we'll start our hiking tour around Amorgos.

We'll begin our hike along the Palia Strata trail, which is situated at an altitude of 400 meters (1,312 ft) and extends approximately 10 km (6.2 miles) along the east coast of Amorgos. There will be various stops to enjoy the landscapes of the island and views of the Aegean Sea.

Our first stop will be in Asfontilitis, an abandoned rural settlement featuring wells and numerous white houses. Here, we will view the exterior of Aghios Nikolaos, an orthodox church in the countryside of Asfontilitis.

Next, we'll proceed to Kapsala, an area known for its caves where monks once lived. Lastly, we will visit the Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa, the second oldest monastery in Greece, known for its spectacular panoramic views from the cliff it occupies.

The hiking tour concludes in Chora, the capital of Amorgos, where we will take a break at a traditional restaurant. Participants may purchase food if desired. We will return to the meeting point after 8-8.5 hours of excursion.
