Palia Stata Hiking Excursion

On this hiking tour in Amorgos, we will follow the Palia Strata route, recognized for its scenic beauty. We will meet in front of the parking lot of Vigla Hotel, then head towards the bay of Aegiali to start our hiking tour around Amorgos.

The hike will follow the Palia Strata trail, located at an altitude of 400 meters (1,312 ft) along the east coast of Amorgos. Over approximately 10 km (6.2 miles), we will have multiple stops to enjoy the island's landscapes and views of the Aegean Sea.

Our first stop will be Asfontilitis, an abandoned rural settlement known for its wells and white houses, where we can view the exterior of Aghios Nikolaos, an orthodox church in the countryside. We will then visit Kapsala, an area of caves historically inhabited by monks. Finally, we will reach the Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa, the second oldest monastery in Greece, renowned for its spectacular cliffside views.

The hiking tour will conclude in Chora, the capital of Amorgos, where there will be a break at a traditional restaurant for those wishing to purchase food. We will return to the meeting point after a total excursion time of 8 to 8.5 hours.
