On this hiking tour in Amorgos, we'll follow the Palia Strata route, one of the most beautiful hiking trails on this island of the Cyclades.

Palia Strata Hiking Excursion

At the indicated time, we'll meet in front of the parking lot of Vigla Hotel to head towards the bay of Aegiali. From this location, we'll begin our hiking tour around Amorgos.

We'll start our hike along the Palia Strata trail, at an altitude of 400 meters (1,312 ft), covering approximately 10 km (6.2 miles). Along the way, we'll make various stops to enjoy the landscapes of the island and views of the Aegean Sea.

Our first stop will be in Asfontilitis, an abandoned rural settlement with wells and white houses. Here, we will view the exterior of Aghios Nikolaos, an orthodox church in the Asfontilitis countryside.

Next, we'll visit Kapsala, a cave area where monks historically lived. Our final stop will be at the iconic Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa, the second oldest monastery in Greece, which offers spectacular panoramic views from its cliffside location.

The hiking tour will conclude in Chora, the capital of Amorgos, where we will take a break at a traditional restaurant for those wishing to purchase food. Following this, we will return to the meeting point, concluding the excursion after 8-8.5 hours.
