Zaanse Schans, Edam, Volendam and Marken

Don’t miss out on a thrilling journey that combines the symbol of Holland – the windmills of Zaanse Schans – and a trip through Edam and the quaint fishing towns of Volendam and Marken.

  • 8 hours
  • See windmills and century-old houses in Zaanse Schans
  • Pass through the picturesque fishing town of Volendam
  • Rural route through Holland

Enjoy a popular tour from Amsterdam to the most picturesque rural areas of Holland by coach. Zaanse Schaans is an open-air museum. It represents a traditional village with its historical windmills and wooden houses. Inside one of the windmills you will get to know its history, and how this place became a strategic location.

Edam is listed as UNESCO World Heritage town since 1996. And in the 16th century it became one of the most important port cities in the north of Holland, though its worldwide fame is due to its cheese market. There we will visit a local farm where you’ll witness the traditional way of making Dutch cheese.

Next, we make our way to Volendam via the polders. In this typical fishing village, you’ll get a chance to take a photo in typical costumes or try some of the local fish by the harbour.

Finally, head over to Marken, a peninsula in Markermeer and a former island inhabited by fishermen. Its quaint architecture attracts tourists and visitors through the year.
