On this free tour of Ancud, we will discover the history and main monuments of one of the most important cities in the Chiloé Archipelago. We will learn about its links with the Spanish monarchy and its independence process.

Ancud Free Tour

At the scheduled time, we will meet at Calle Libertad to start this free tour of Ancud. We will explore the former capital of the province of Chiloé.

We will first walk around the Plaza de Armas, discovering the origins of this city founded by the Spaniards over 400 years ago. We will see various mythological sculptures that reflect Chilean beliefs.

We will visit the Cathedral of Ancud, built at the end of the 20th century on the site of the previous temple, which collapsed in a tragic earthquake in 1960. Our exploration of the city's religious culture will continue at the Museum of the Churches of Chiloé.

Next, we will head to the market to find local produce and craft shops. We will then walk to the San Antonio Fort, built on the orders of Carlos III for defense. We will discuss the process of Chiloé's independence during this part of the tour.

After a 2.5-hour tour, we will conclude the guided experience at the Plazoleta Goleta Ancud.
