On this free tour of Ancud, we'll discover the history and main monuments of one of the important cities in the Chiloé Archipelago, including its links with the Spanish monarchy and the independence process.
Ancud Free Tour
At the indicated time, we'll meet at Arturo Prat 112 to start this free tour of Ancud. We'll explore the former capital of the province of Chiloé.
We will begin by walking around the Plaza de Armas, where we will discuss the origins of this city founded by the Spaniards over 400 years ago. We’ll see mythological sculptures that reflect Chilean beliefs.
Next, we will visit the Cathedral of Ancud, which was built at the end of the 20th century on the site of a temple that collapsed in the 1960 earthquake. We will further explore the city's religious culture at the Museum of the Churches of Chiloé.
Afterwards, we will head to the market for local produce and crafts. We will then make our way to the San Antonio Fort, constructed under Carlos III to defend the region. Here, we will discuss the independence of Chiloé.
Concluding the 2.5-hour tour, we will say goodbye at the Plazoleta Goleta Ancud.
