Delve into the volcanic depths of Terceira and discover its geological formations, including the volcanic caves of Algar do Carvão, Gruta do Natal, and the fumaroles of Furnas do Enxofre.

Volcanic Caves Day Trip

Hotel pickup will be at the designated time, after which we will start our route to the volcanic caves of Terceira using an off-roading vehicle or a van, passing through leafy forests and hydrangea fields.

We will navigate lesser-traveled trails to reach the Guilherme Moniz crater, 640 meters high, where we will explore Algar do Carvão and Gruta do Natal. Inside the volcanic caves, we will observe Azorian vegetation, including holly, moss, and laurel.

During our visit, we will learn about the history of these caves, admiring stalactites and surface cavities, and discover a hidden pond within, adding to the experience.

We will also visit Furnas do Enxofre, known for its geothermal activity, where fumaroles emit sulphurous steam from deep underground. This will provide an opportunity to closely observe the volcanic origin of the Azores.

On the return trip, we will traverse the main roads of Terceira, enjoying the scenery before returning to the hotel after 4 hours of nature immersion.
