Pick-up from your hotel occurs at the indicated time, initiating the route to the volcanic caves of Terceira in an off-roading vehicle or van. Journey through lush forests and characteristic hydrangea fields.

Traveling lesser-known trails, we arrive at Guilherme Moniz crater, 640 meters high. Here, we explore key geological sites: Algar do Carvão and Gruta do Natal, examining their interiors and unique Azorian vegetation, including holly, moss, and laurel.

Learn about the caves' formation while admiring stalactites and cavities, and discover a hidden pond within, enhancing the experience.

Next, we visit Furnas do Enxofre, renowned for geothermal activity, featuring fumaroles emitting sulfurous steam from below. Observe this natural phenomenon, a reminder of the Azores' volcanic origin.

Concluding the tour, we return via main roads, enjoying the scenery of Terceira. After 4 hours immersed in nature, the tour concludes with a return to the hotel.

Itinerary Changes

Due to improvement works, Algar do Carvão will be closed from 19 October 2024 to April 2025. During this period, the itinerary will include a visit to a hidden lava tube.
