Pilgrimage to the Monastery of Santo Toribio & San Sebastian de Garabandal

You will enjoy a peaceful day of self-reflection while you cross one of the most beautiful landscapes in Cantabria. We will depart from Santander towards the village of Potes at 9:00 am. This small village is known to be one of the nicest villages in Spain.

Once in Potes, you will have the opportunity to do a short walking Pilgrimage to the Monastery of Santo Toribio (3 km in positive slope). This route is in fact the last stage of the pilgrim way known as “Camino Lebaniego” that leads towards the Monastery.

The Monastery of Santo Toribio is together with Santiago, Rome and Jerusalem one of the four Holy places for Christianity. Its importance is due to the fact it houses the Lignum Crucis. This is the longest piece of wood kept of the Cross of Jesus. The Monastery also celebrates de Jubileum in perpetuum and nex Jubilee year will be in 2023.

As you arrive in the Monastery, you will have the opportunity to take part of the Pilgrim mass that takes place daily at 12:00 am.

After the mass, we will visit the chapel of San Miguel from where you will enjoy beautiful views of Picos de Europa. We will then go back to Potes for lunch. The proposed menu is a “Cocido Lebaniego”, this is a stew of chickpeas and meat and it is just delicious! However, should you prefer another menu, please let us know in advance.

After lunch, we will give you some free time to visit Potes and do some shopping.

Finally, we will go to San Sebastian de Garabandal. In this small village in the mountains were apparitions of Virgin Mary from 1961 to 1965. You will have the opportunity here to walk up to the ""Sanctuary of Los Pinos"", the main place where the Virgin appeared. After spending some time there and visiting the village, we will drive back to Santander where we should arrive about 19:00 pm."
