On this 2-day trekking tour on the Acatenango volcano, participants will reach the summit of one of the highest peaks in Guatemala and camp in nature.
Description
Day 1: Antigua Guatemala - Acatenango Volcano
We will leave downtown Antigua by minibus to the village of La Soledad on the Acatenango volcano, which stands at 3976 metres high. The trekking route comprises four stages on day one, each lasting about one hour.
The hike will showcase changing landscapes, from agricultural fields to cloud forests, with views of other highland volcanoes like Atitlán and Tajamulco. A picnic burrito (chicken or vegetable) will be provided halfway through. Upon reaching an altitude of 3700 metres (12,129 ft), we will set up our tents and enjoy hot tea or coffee, followed by a dinner of pasta bolognese or vegetarian pasta.
Day 2: Acatenango Volcano - Antigua Guatemala
We will start early to trek to the top of the Acatenango volcano, crossing challenging paths. An additional option is the Fuego volcano climb, which starts before 4 am at 3900 metres (12,795 ft). This route is challenging and is done without a guide, but offers close-up views of eruptions.
After enjoying panoramic views, we will descend to base camp for breakfast (banana bread and coffee) before returning to La Soledad and finishing the activity in Antigua Guatemala around 12:30 to 1 pm.
