On this 2-day trekking tour on the Acatenango volcano, we will reach the summit of one of the highest peaks in Guatemala and camp in nature.
Description
Day 1: Antigua Guatemala - Acatenango Volcano
We will depart from downtown Antigua by minibus to the village of La Soledad, located on the Acatenango volcano. The trekking route will consist of four stages lasting approximately one hour each, starting from agricultural fields to cloud forests and views of other highland volcanoes.
Halfway through, we will enjoy a picnic with a chicken or vegetable burrito. After reaching 3700 metres (12,129 ft), we will set up our tents and enjoy a hot drink, followed by a delicious dinner of pasta bolognese or a vegetarian option.
Day 2: Acatenango Volcano - Antigua Guatemala
We will wake up early to trek to the top of the Acatenango volcano. The trek involves challenging paths of volcanic sand. Optionally, participants can make an additional climb of the Fuego volcano—this requires an early start at around 4 am and is high in difficulty, done without a guide, to witness eruptions up close.
After enjoying panoramic views, we will descend to base camp for breakfast and return to La Soledad. We will conclude the activity in Antigua Guatemala, arriving between 12:30 to 1 pm.
