Acatenango Volcano 2-Day Trekking Route

On this 2-day trekking tour on the Acatenango volcano, participants will summit one of the highest peaks in Guatemala and camp in nature.

Description

Day 1: Antigua Guatemala - Acatenango Volcano

We will depart from downtown Antigua by minibus to La Soledad village, located on the Acatenango volcano's mountainside, at a height of 3976 metres. The trekking route will consist of four stages, each lasting approximately one hour.

As we hike, we will observe changes in the landscape, starting from agricultural fields to cloud forests and views of other highland volcanoes such as Atitlán, Tolimán, and Tajamulco. A picnic with a chicken or vegetable burrito will be provided halfway through the hike.

Upon reaching an altitude of 3700 metres, we will set up tents and enjoy hot tea or coffee. Dinner will be pasta bolognese or a vegetarian dish. The next day continues our adventure.

Day 2: Acatenango Volcano - Antigua Guatemala

We will wake up early to trek to the top of the Acatenango volcano, navigating challenging paths of volcanic sand. An optional climb to the Fuego volcano is available, requiring an early wake-up at 4 am to reach a height of 3900 metres. This route is difficult and unguided, but offers impressive eruptions close up.

After relishing the views, we will descend to base camp for breakfast, followed by the journey back to La Soledad. We will conclude the activity back in Antigua Guatemala, arriving between 12:30 and 1 pm.

Accommodation

This activity includes 1 night's accommodation in a tent in nature, along with sleeping bags and meals.

Pickup

Pickup will take place at your hotel in Antigua Guatemala or at meeting points such as Café Condesa or La Parada Coffee, depending on availability and season.
