Pacaya Volcano Hike

In this activity, we'll hike up the Pacaya volcano and walk along its volcanic cone while admiring the lava rivers. We'll even stop to toast marshmallows!

Description

At the indicated time we'll pick you up at your hotel in Antigua Guatemala, from where we'll go by bus to the municipality of San Vicente Pacaya in Escuintla. After an hour and fifteen-minute drive, we'll arrive at this town to begin the hike up the slope of the Pacaya Volcano. The 1.5-hour trekking route will include insights into the history of this active volcanic cone, which has recorded at least 23 eruptions since the Spanish arrived. You will also enjoy views of the region.

During the hike, you will have the opportunity to see the volcano's lava firsthand. Along the way, we'll take a break to toast marshmallows in the magma streams. After exploring the summit of the Pacaya volcano, we will walk about an hour back to the village and return to Antigua Guatemala by bus, dropping you off approximately 8 hours after the start.
