Faxina Caynon or Araçatuba Peak Hike

Escape the hustle and bustle of Curitiba on this hiking route either through Faxina Canyon or to the peak of Araçatuba.

Description

During the booking process, you can choose between the following routes, each including hotel pickup and drop-off in Curitiba, transportation by bus or minibus, and a Portuguese-speaking guide. Below are the itineraries for each option:

Faxina Canyon hike

This hiking route, with moderate difficulty, covers about 5 kilometres (3.1 miles). The hike leads to Faxina Canyon in São Luíz do Purunã, Balsa Nova. Participants will experience the area's natural beauty and historical significance featuring rocks over 400 million years old, marking the division between the first and second plateaus of Paraná.

Along the trail, we will encounter various natural features, including trails, waterfalls, and viewpoints, with opportunities to swim in the river, stopping for around 20 minutes depending on the season.

After approximately 6 hours of activity, we will return to your hotel in Curitiba.

Araçatuba Peak Hike

This option, also of moderate difficulty, consists of a 8-kilometre (5 miles) hike to Araçatuba Peak, the tallest mountain in south-east Paraná, at an altitude of 1673 metres (5488 feet) in Tijucas do Sul, part of the Serra do Mar complex near the border with Santa Catarina.

During the ascent, hikers will observe unique mountain vegetation and experience the region's microclimate, known for being the coldest in Paraná. Fog, rain showers, and sudden cold snaps are common, with occasional snowfall possible in certain seasons.

The hiking tour concludes at your hotel in Curitiba after approximately 10 hours of activity.
