Learn all about the 1,000-year-old work of ashlar stone quarry workers and enter a ravine formed by flowing water on our unforgettable Ashlar Route & Culebrillas Canyon Tour from Arequipa.
Ashlar Route & Culebrillas Canyon Tour
First, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Arequipa at your chosen time. We'll drive down the Uchumayo road until we reach the ashlar stone quarries. Here, we'll take a guided tour to learn about the work of the quarrymen, whose trade dates back to ancient times.
The stones in this area can only be worked by hand; otherwise, they would break. The quarrymen carve the stones to form ashlars used for the typical constructions of this part of Peru. This material comes from the lava of the volcanoes surrounding Arequipa.
Afterwards, we'll spend 30 minutes walking to our next destination, the Culebrillas Canyon, a ravine formed by nature and water. We'll hike through the rocky walls, which tower at a height of 50 (15 metres) to 65 feet (20 metres). Additionally, we'll see the 1,000-year-old petroglyphs, whose meanings remain a mystery today.
Following a fascinating 4-hour tour, we'll return to the center of Arequipa and drop you off near the Plaza de Armas.
