Ashlar Route & Culebrillas Canyon Tour
We will pick you up from your hotel in Arequipa at your chosen time. We will drive along Uchumayo road to reach the ashlar stone quarries. Here, we will take a guided tour to learn about the work of the quarrymen, whose trade dates back to ancient times.
The stones in this area can only be worked by hand; otherwise, they break. The quarrymen carve the stone to form the ashlars used in local constructions. This material comes from the lava of the volcanoes surrounding Arequipa.
Afterwards, we will walk for 30 minutes to our next destination, Culebrillas Canyon, a ravine shaped by nature and water passage. We will hike through the rocky walls, which rise between 50 (15 metres) and 65 feet (20 metres). We will also see 1,000-year-old petroglyphs. The meaning of these cave symbols carved in the rock remains a mystery.
Following a 4-hour tour, we will return to the centre of Arequipa and drop you off near the Plaza de Armas.
