Colca Canyon 2-Day Trip

Day 1: Arequipa - Chivay

After pickup from your hotel in Arequipa, we will depart towards the Colca Valley. The journey takes approximately three hours through the Salinas & Aguada National Reserve, where we will stop at the Patapampa viewpoint, situated at over 15,800 feet (4,830 meters) above sea level.

Continuing our route past lagoons and wetlands, we will arrive in Chivay, a traditional village at an altitude of 11,800 feet (3,600 meters). In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to visit one of the nearby hot springs to relax and experience the therapeutic benefits of the waters.

We’ll return to Chivay for a memorable evening showcasing a traditional dinner alongside typical dances; a cultural experience not to be missed!

Day 2: Chivay - Maca - Yanque - Arequipa

The day begins with a hearty breakfast at your hotel in Chivay. Energized, we will continue our exploration of the Colca Valley, starting with a visit to the renowned Condor Cross. Here, you can spend an hour observing condors soaring overhead and enjoying views of the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in the world.

As we head back to Chivay, we will pause twice. Our first stop is the town of Maca, recognized as a Historic Monument of Peru, where the local church and the traditional attire of residents provide a captivating glimpse into the local culture. Next, we’ll visit Yanque, nestled in the heart of the Colca Valley.

Upon returning to Chivay, there will be free time for lunch before we commence our journey back to Arequipa, concluding the tour around 5 PM.

Trip Accommodation

You can choose from three accommodation options during the booking process:

House accommodation: staying with a family in Coporaque or Sibayo, which includes both lunch and dinner with your hosts.Hostel accommodation: enjoy a private room with a bathroom and hot water, with options including Colca Inn, Posada del Colca, or similar.Three-star hotel accommodation: this option features a private room with bathroom, wifi, and heating, with selections such as Casa Andina Colca, Colcallaqta, Pozo del Cielo, or similar.

Why Not Finish the Tour in Puno?

During the booking process, you can opt to conclude your tour in Puno instead of Arequipa. This alternative keeps the itinerary largely unchanged, except on the second day when we depart from Chivay heading towards Puno.

This 6-hour trip will include stops at Patapampa and Lagunilla, allowing for additional exploration of the Colca Valley, concluding in Puno around 7 PM.
