The Colca Valley offers a blend of nature and tradition, with exploration starting in Chivay, a high-altitude town near the Apurímac River, the source of the Amazon. This two-day tour showcases one of Peru's impressive regions.

Colca Valley 2 Day Trip

Day 1: Arequipa - Colca Canyon - Chivay

Pick up from your accommodation in Arequipa is at 2:30 am. Travel takes around three hours, with a breakfast stop in Yanque. After an additional hour and a half, enjoy views from the Condor Cross, a renowned viewpoint in Colca Valley, known for condor sightings and spectacular views of Colca Canyon.

Continue to Maca, a small town with traditional attire and a colonial-style church. Then, pass pre-Inca terraces before reaching the Valley's hot springs for relaxation. The day concludes in Chivay, where the afternoon is free for exploration at over 9842 feet (3000 meters) above sea level.

Day 2: Chivay - Apurímac River - Arequipa

After breakfast, depart Chivay for the Apurímac River, a two and a half hour journey to where the Amazon starts. At 16,400 feet (5000 meters), walk alongside the river and enjoy the natural landscapes and wildlife. The crystal-clear waters flow from rock walls toward the Atlantic Ocean.

Return to Chivay by midday for lunch (not included) and visit the Patapampa mountains and volcanoes. The tour concludes with a return to Arequipa, arriving around 6 pm in the city center (between Zela and Santa Catalina).

Accommodation

The tour includes one night's stay at Hotel Colca Llaqta or similar.

Hotel Pick Up

On the first day, pick up is from accommodations in Arequipa city center. If not, meet at Plaza de Armas opposite the cathedral at 2:30 am.

Tickets

The tour does not include the tourist ticket for the Colca Canyon (approx. 23 USD) or entrance to the hot springs (approx. 6 USD).
