Explore Arequipa City with Mummy Visit - Small Group Tour

Visit the beautiful historic centre of Arequipa, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and discover its historic buildings and impressive colonial churches. This breathtaking city is rich in history, culture, and boasts some of the best cuisine in Peru. We will take panoramic tours of colonial districts and viewpoints overlooking the volcanoes. Admire the Ice Maiden as you explore the Museum of Andean Sanctuaries at the Catholic University of Santa María, and be amazed by its incredible story, as well as its perfect state of preservation, with our Arequipa City Tour & Juanita Mummy experience.

After picking you up from the hotel located in the centre of the city of Arequipa, we will begin our tour by visiting the colonial district of San Lázaro, where the city of Arequipa was founded, and the oldest neighborhood in the city.

Next, we will visit the Plaza de Armas and the Municipal Palace, where you will admire the spectacular architecture surrounding them. The Cathedral, the Church of the Company founded by the Jesuits in the 17th century, and the 16th-century Church of San Francisco are jewels that stand out for their beautiful structures.

We will also visit the Museum of Andean Sanctuaries, an archaeological museum with a very interesting collection of various artifacts that belong to the Inca culture, dating back approximately 500 years. The museum also exhibits mummies from ancient Peru.

You will have the opportunity to appreciate the excellent state of preservation of the famous Lady of Ampato, as well as the mummification process used to keep her in such good condition. Also known as the Ice Maiden, she is a young Inca girl believed to be between 13 and 14 years old, who was found frozen on the Ampato Volcano in 1995 and is currently protected inside a glass case at a temperature of 19 degrees below zero. She was discovered with offerings such as gold and precious stone figurines, along with other objects that are displayed in the museum.

We will continue the tour of the city by visiting the district of Yanahuara, a colonial neighborhood known for its beautiful viewpoint overlooking the volcanoes that surround the city, especially the Misti Volcano. We will also explore the district of Carmen Alto, which offers stunning views of agricultural terraces.

At the end of the guided tour, we will drop you back at the hotel.
