Aymara Region 6-day Tour

On this tour from Arica, we will travel for 6 days through the Aymara community region of northern Chile, exploring the altiplano landscapes.

Aymara Region 6-day Tour

Day 1

We will pick you up at your hotel in Arica and drive to the Presencias Tutelares, featuring sculptures by artist Juan Diaz Fleming. After visiting the Apacheta viewpoint, we will head to Codpa to see the Wine Museum and have a picnic lunch. We will also visit Guañacagua and its church of San Pedro, examine local fruit crops, view petroglyphs at Cerro Blanco, and enjoy dinner at rural lodging in Caragua.

Day 2

After breakfast, we will trek for 6 to 8 hours, visiting mountains important for Aymara ceremonies, including Tangane and Pukare. Picnic lunch will be included before we return to our lodging for dinner.

Day 3

We will depart for the Belén sector to visit local churches and the archaeological site of Guayguarane, then proceed to the Tambo sector for Zapahuira colcas. We will trek along the Inca trail or Calvario hill before enjoying a traditional Aymara meal and staying overnight in a rural house in Socoroma.

Day 4

After breakfast, we will visit the Putre viewpoint and the Chucuyo viewpoint before stopping at the Cotacotani Lagoons and Chungará Lake for a short trek. We will stay at a rural lodge in Parinacota or Chivatambo.

Day 5

We will visit Chinchillani hill and the Surire Salt Flats before going to the Chilcaya Lagoons. Our day concludes with a visit to the Polloquere hot springs, staying overnight in a rural lodging in Parinacota or Chivatambo.

Day 6

We will travel to Caquena and Cospilla, then visit the colorful mountains of Suriplaza. You may choose between enjoying the scenery or a trekking route reaching elevations of up to 17,388 feet (5,300 meters). After lunch, we will visit Cardones Ravine and see the geoglyphs in the Lluta sector before returning to your hotel in Arica by late afternoon.

Accommodation and meals

All stays are in shared rooms in rural houses, with dinner and breakfast included. Lunches are also included as picnic lunches during tours. The tour includes 5 nights' accommodation in the following locations:
