Lake Chungará Tour
Between 7 am and 8 am we'll pick you up at your hotel in Arica, departing for the Andean highlands of northern Chile to tour Lauca National Park, home to Lake Chungará.
We'll first stop in the small town of Poconchile to visit the church of San Jerónimo, dating back to 1605. The route to Chungará will take us through the ravine of Los Cardones, the village of Malku, and the viewpoint of Putre, where we will enjoy panoramic views of Lauca National Park.
Our next stop will be the viewpoint of Chucuyo, just before arriving at Lake Chungará, which is at an altitude of 4500 meters (14763 feet). This lake is part of an ecosystem of great biodiversity. We will walk around the lake to see native animals like alpacas, guanacos, vicuñas, llamas, and other Andean animals.
Lake Chungará also attracts numerous birds of the altiplano such as Chilean flamingos, Neotropic cormorants, South American ostriches, giant taguas, and condors. After observing the endemic birds, we'll visit a local restaurant for a delicious three-course lunch of local cuisine.
After lunch, we will return to your hotel in Arica, arriving at 7 pm.
