Prepare to be captivated by the vibrant hues of the Red Lagoon, a striking natural wonder nestled in the northern Chilean highlands. This excursion from Arica also encompasses visits to several smaller lakes in the region, including the Verde and Amarilla lagoons.

Exploration of the Red Lagoon

Your adventure begins with a pick-up from your Arica hotel between 5 am and 6 am, as we embark on a journey to discover one of the most breathtaking sites in the highlands.

Upon reaching the Huara crossroads, we will halt at the Chillaiza petroglyphs to admire these ancient carvings left by the Incas. The journey will then take us to the charming village of Camiña, where we will enjoy a refreshing breakfast.

With our energy renewed, we’ll continue towards the banks of the Caritaya River. At an impressive altitude of 3700 meters (12139 feet), we’ll arrive at the distinctive crimson waters of the renowned Red Lagoon. During our visit, you’ll discover the natural phenomena responsible for the scarlet pigments, which offer a fascinating contrast within this Andean terrain.

After exploring the Red Lagoon, the itinerary includes a visit to the two other smaller high Andean lakes, the Verde and Amarilla lagoons. The remarkable yellow and green shades of these lakes are attributed to various microalgae, minerals, and other natural factors.

We will wrap up our journey at a restaurant in Camiña, where we will savor a local meal featuring three dishes from the region's culinary traditions. Following lunch, we will make our way back to your hotel in Arica, with an expected arrival time of 6 pm.
