Hike at Otún Quimbaya Sanctuary
Your day begins with a pickup at your hotel in Armenia at 8 am, after which we will head north towards the Otún Quimbaya Flora and Fauna Sanctuary.
After a scenic drive of about 1 hour and 30 minutes, we will reach this ecological haven located in the Central Cordillera of the Colombian Andes. This reserve is dedicated to protecting numerous species, including some that are at risk of extinction, flourishing within its diverse ecosystems.
Upon arrival, we will embark on a 1.2-mile (2-kilometre) trek through the lush Andean rainforest. This hike, which is relatively easy, will allow us to observe a variety of birds in their natural environment. Look out for the moustached antpittas, vibrant tanagers, torrent ducks, and various other endemic avian species.
In addition to the birdlife, we may encounter mammals such as monkeys, silver foxes, tapirs, and pacaranas. The sanctuary provides a safe habitat for these animals to thrive.
During our expedition, we will take a break to refuel with a traditional local lunch, which includes one dish and a drink. After our meal, we will continue our exploration and immerse ourselves further in the region's natural beauty.
Finally, we will make our way back to Armenia, ensuring you are dropped off at your hotel by 3 pm.
