Get to know the culture and local handicrafts of the communities of the department of Risaralda with this excursion to Guática and Quinchía from Armenia.
Tour to Guática & Quinchía
At 7 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Armenia to head north to the department of Risaralda. It will take about 3 hours to reach Quinchía, where we'll make our first stop.
We'll visit this municipality surrounded by hills, known as Villa de los Cerros, and stop at its archaeological museum, Tierras de Xixarca. Here, we will admire artifacts made by the Quimbaya, an indigenous people that inhabited the area until the 16th century.
Next, we'll visit a filigree workshop to observe local artisans using this goldsmithing technique for typical handicrafts. Following this, we'll enjoy a lunch of typical food, including a main dish and a drink, before heading to Guática through northern Risaralda's landscapes.
In Guática, settled by indigenous people in 1638, we will learn about the silk production process, including the plants that feed the silkworms. Community members will demonstrate how textiles are crafted by hand.
You will have free time for shopping before returning to Armenia and being dropped off at your hotel around 4 pm.
Tour without Lunch
If you prefer to bring your own lunch, you can select the tour option without lunch. You'll have time to have lunch on your own before the visit to Guática.
