5-Day Trek on Mount Meru

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

Your adventure begins at the airport, where a guide will greet you and escort you to your accommodation in Arusha. After checking in, we will gather with our knowledgeable hiking guides who will provide essential safety briefings prior to our ascent.

A delicious dinner at the hotel will conclude the day, allowing you to recharge in preparation for the upcoming expedition on Mount Meru.

Day 2: Arusha - Momella Gate - Mount Meru

Following an early breakfast and the organization of our trekking gear, we will depart for Momella Gate, the entry point to Mount Meru Natural Park. Here, a forest ranger will join us to ensure our safety while we relish the chance to observe wildlife along the trail.

As we trek the 10 km (6 mi) pathway, expect to catch sight of elephants, zebras, giraffes, monkeys, and antelopes in their natural surroundings—an experience to remember! After approximately six hours of hiking, we will arrive at the Miriakamba Hut camp, enjoy dinner, and settle in for the night.

Day 3: Ascent on Mount Meru

The second day presents the most challenging segment of our climb as we navigate 8 km (5 mi) along the mountain's slopes. This section rewards us with spectacular views of the crater. Much of the day will be spent trekking through ashy terrains typical of this dormant volcano.

A hearty meal will be served at the Saddle Hut. For those inclined, a short hike to the summit of Little Meru offers a chance to soak in the sunset views. Later, we will have dinner at camp and rest up for the following day.

Day 4: Summit of Mount Meru

On the third day, we’ll achieve the summit of Mount Meru by trekking over 5 km (3 mi). At the peak, we will be greeted with stunning panoramas of Kilimanjaro and the opportunity to gaze into the crater and down the steep inner cliffs.

Before descending, we will enjoy a meal at the Saddle Hut camp, then embark on a 13 km (8 mi) descent along arid paths. Our day will conclude at the Miriakamba Hut camp for dinner and overnight rest.

Day 5: Descent from Mount Meru - Return to Arusha

On our final day, we will finish the descent, wandering through lush meadows and forests. Before reaching Momella Gate in the late morning, keep an eye out for the local wildlife along this 10 km (6 mi) trail.

Once we arrive at Momella Gate, a transfer will take us back to the hotel in Arusha for dinner, where we can reflect on our remarkable Mount Meru expedition.

For both our first and last night, we will stay at the Maura Apartments & Lodges in Arusha, ensuring comfort before and after our trek.
