Assisi Guided Tour

The city of origin of St. Francis of Assisi is an important pilgrimage location for many. The tour lasts between 2 and 3 hours, focusing on the founder of the Franciscan order and the order of Saint Clare.

We'll meet in the Piazza Giacomo Matteotti to begin our tour. Here, we’ll learn about the life of Saint Clare, whose remains rest inside.

Next, we will visit the Chiesa Nuova, built on the site of St. Francis's family home. The original three portals and the ground floor where he worked are preserved.

The tour continues to the Temple of Minerva in Piazza del Comune, dating back to the first century BC and originally built in honor of the goddess of war. It was later converted into a church.

We will then visit the Upper Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi and the Lower Basilica of St. Francis, dedicating half an hour to each. These sites are part of the UNESCO World Heritage designation.

The Upper Basilica features a bright and spacious design, contrasting with the Lower Basilica’s darker atmosphere. We will explore its chapels and the crypt containing St. Francis's remains.

The tour concludes outside the Lower Basilica of St. Francis, after visiting the significant locations in this city.
