Assisi Guided Tour
The city of origin of St. Francis of Assisi is an important pilgrimage location for many. The tour lasts three hours, providing insight into the founder of the Franciscan order and the order of Saint Clare.
The meeting point is in the Piazza Giacomo Matteotti to begin the Assisi guided tour. Here, we will learn more about the life of Saint Clare, whose remains rest inside the site.
The next stop is the Chiesa Nuova, built on the location of St. Francis's family home. Although converted into a church, the original three portals and the ground floor where St. Francis worked remain intact.
The tour proceeds to the Temple of Minerva, located in Piazza del Comune, originating from the first century BC. Initially built in honor of the goddess of war, it was later converted into a church.
Next, we will visit the Upper Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi and the Lower Basilica of St. Francis, dedicating half an hour to each. This UNESCO World Heritage site offers significant details and architectural features.
The Upper Basilica is characterized by brightness, while the Lower Basilica features a darker atmosphere. The visit includes the many chapels and the crypt containing the remains of St. Francis.
The tour concludes outside the Lower Basilica of St. Francis after exploring key locations in the city.
