On this walking tour of Astorga, we'll explore the city's history, architecture, and Roman heritage.

Tour Details

We will meet at the designated time in front of the Episcopal Palace in the Plaza Eduardo de Castro. The tour begins with a stroll through the historic centre, discussing the Maragatería region, local mule drivers, and Astorga's connection to chocolate.

During our walk, we will view two murals by local artist Da2.0. We will then visit Plaza de Santocildes to learn about Cocido Maragato, a local stew, followed by an exploration of the Plaza Mayor and the Baroque façade of the Town Hall, where we might hear the bell chimes of Juan Zancuda and Colasa.

We'll continue along the ancient walls, passing the Sanctuary of Fátima, the Synagogue Garden, and the Domus del Oso y los Pájaros, discussing the city's festivals and the Astures y Romanos re-enactment.

Next, we'll enter the Episcopal Palace, designed by Antoni Gaudí, exploring three floors of this modernist site.

To conclude, we will visit the Astorga Cathedral, admiring its chapels, choir, and the main altarpiece by Gaspar Becerra. The tour will end after a total of 3 hours at the Plaza de la Catedral.
