On this walking tour of Astorga, we'll explore the city's history, architecture, and Roman heritage.

Tour Details

We will meet in front of the Episcopal Palace in the Plaza Eduardo de Castro at the designated time. Our tour begins with a stroll through the historic centre of Astorga, discussing the Maragatería region and its famous mule drivers, as well as the city's connection to chocolate.

During the walk, we will admire two murals by local artist Da2.0. We will then proceed to Plaza de Santocildes for the story behind Cocido Maragato. We will head to the Plaza Mayor to explore the Baroque façade of the Town Hall and possibly hear the bell chimes of Juan Zancuda and Colasa.

Continuing along the ancient walls, we will pass sites such as the Sanctuary of Fátima, Synagogue Garden, and the Domus del Oso y los Pájaros. We will also discuss local festivals, including the Astures y Romanos re-enactment.

Next, we will enter the Episcopal Palace, designed by Antoni Gaudí, exploring three floors from the main level to the basement.

Lastly, we will visit the Astorga Cathedral to appreciate its chapels, choir, and main altarpiece by Gaspar Becerra. The tour will conclude after a total of 3 hours at the Plaza de la Catedral.
