Day Excursion to Ancient Corinth
To kick off the day, we will pick you up at your hotel in Athens and begin our journey westward towards Ancient Corinth. Are you ready to step back into history?
As we travel, you'll pass notable sites such as Daphnis and Elefsis, all while admiring the breathtaking coastal views accompanied by pristine beaches. Be sure to have your camera ready!
Our first highlight will be a visit to the Corinth Canal, an astonishing engineering achievement completed in the 1890s to link the Saronic Gulf and the Gulf of Corinth. We'll take a break here to savor the striking panoramic perspective and capture some memorable photos.
Continuing our journey to Corinth, you will witness a place steeped in history. Once a prosperous city, it thrived due to its pivotal location, a legacy that remains visible in the archaeological remnants. Interestingly, biblical accounts indicate that the apostle St. Paul preached in this city for 18 months around 50 A.D.
While in Ancient Corinth, we will delve into the Agora or market square, meander past several fountains, and admire the grand Temple of Apollo, dating back to the 6th century B.C. Despite the devastating earthquakes that struck in 375 A.D. and 521 A.D., the remnants of the Roman city continue to stand. Walking through these ancient structures will allow us to envision life in one of the most pivotal cities of ancient Greece and Rome.
Ultimately, we will return to Athens, concluding our excursion approximately six hours after the initial pickup.
