Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet on Rue de la République to begin a guided tour around Avignon's historic centre.
First, we'll walk along the banks of the Rhone and see the famous Pont d'Avignon, where only one section remains as the footbridge does not completely connect the two banks. Then we'll climb the steps that lead to Rochers des Doms.
Next to this site is the Papal Palace. We'll visit the interior of this Gothic monument, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As we explore the cloister, chapel, and other rooms, we'll learn about the Papacy of Avignon and the historical context of the seven bishops residing in southern France between 1309 and 1377.
The tour will then continue to the Place de l'Horloge. In this central square, we'll view the facade of the City Hall and the Avignon Opera House, known for its Greek-Roman style architecture.
Finally, after 2.5 hours of exploring, we'll conclude the tour with a glass of Côtes du Rhône wine in a restaurant in the city centre.
