Tour the historic city of Avignon with this Avignon Walking Tour, including tickets and a guided tour of the Papal Palace.

Description

At the specified time, we'll meet on Rue de la République to begin a guided tour around Avignon's historic centre.

We will first walk along the banks of the Rhone and see the Pont d'Avignon. Only one section of this bridge remains, as it does not connect the two riverbanks completely. Next, we'll climb the steps leading to the walls of Rochers des Doms.

Adjacent to this location is the Papal Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will visit the interior of this Gothic monument, exploring the cloister, chapel, and various rooms while learning about the origins of the Papacy of Avignon and the reasons why seven bishops of Rome resided in southern France between 1309 and 1377.

The tour will continue to the Place de l'Horloge, where we will see the facade of the City Hall and the Avignon Opera House, known for its Greek-Roman-style architecture.

After 3 hours of exploring, the tour will conclude with a glass of Côtes du Rhône wine at a restaurant in the city centre.
