The legacy of the Roman Empire in this region is still very much present in Nîmes, Pont du Gard, and Uzès. Follow all the traces of antiquity with this Provence Roman History Tour.
Description
We'll pick you up at the indicated time at 41 Cours Jean Jaurès in Avignon. After an hour, we'll arrive in Nîmes, one of the most outstanding cities of Roman origin in Provence.
The most important Roman monument in the city is the Arenas de Nîmes amphitheatre. An English audio guide will be provided for your self-exploration. Gladiator competitions were held here, and it is now one of the most popular bullrings in France. After your visit, we'll stop briefly at the Maison Carrée temple.
The next stop on the tour is Pont du Gard, a well-preserved Roman aqueduct. You'll have free time to admire the monument and can also visit the Pont du Gard Museum to learn about Roman engineering.
The tour continues to Uzès, where you can explore the Provencal village. Suggested sites include the Place aux Herbes and the Tour Fenestrelle, a Romanesque bell tower in the Saint-Théodorit cathedral.
Before returning, we'll stop in Orange, known for its ancient monuments, including a UNESCO World Heritage-listed Roman Theatre from the 1st century BC.
We'll return to Avignon, arriving at the starting point 8.5 hours after pickup.
Important Info
