Tour of Avignon and Luberon

Are you a history buff? Don't miss this guided tour of Avignon! After a walk through the town's historic centre, we'll move on to a tour of the villages of Luberon.

Description

At the indicated time, we'll meet at rue de la République for our guide tour of Avignon.

We'll begin the walking tour (lasting 3 hours) by making our way along the Avignon Bridge area. En route, we'll learn why this footbridge never crosses the Rhone River. We'll then head to the gardens of the Rocher des Doms, the old walled area of the city.

The tour will continue to the magnificent Palace of the Popes. Inside this landmark, we'll learn about the Popes that challenged Roman rule, view countless sacred works of art in the palace, and discover the secrets of this former papal residence.

After the Papal Palace, we'll proceed to other significant landmarks such as Place de l'Horloge, the town's Theater, and the City Hall. At the end of the guided tour, you'll have an hour of free time for lunch in town. Afterward, we'll reconvene in the historic centre and begin our drive to the villages of Luberon.

We'll pass by the ancient Roman bridge of Pont Julien before arriving at Rousillon for a stroll through the medieval town. The tour will also include a quick stop at Lacoste for scenic viewpoints.

Lastly, we'll stop in Gordes and wander its streets before starting our return trip to Avignon, arriving about 9.5 hours after meeting.
