Hiking and Kayaking at the Emerald Lagoon
We will meet at 6 am at the main square of Ayacucho and travel through the Andean highlands to Huanta, where we'll pause for breakfast.
At around 11 am, we'll start a half-hour trek through pastures to reach the Verdecocha or Emerald Lagoon, located at an altitude of 4300 meters (14,100 feet). The hike offers rewarding views upon arrival.
Upon reaching the lagoon, we will embark on kayaks to paddle across the uniquely colored water reserve. We will learn about the characteristics that give it its crystalline emerald green color.
After enjoying the environment and taking photos, we will continue the hike to the Uchuraccay sanctuary for rest and to hear a captivating story about the site.
At the end of the trail, a bus will take us to lunch in Huanta, allowing you to explore the local cuisine. Following lunch, we will have a brief tour of this town, known as the Emerald of the Andes, including a visit to the statue of the White Christ.
We will return to Ayacucho, arriving back at the departure point around 6 pm.
