Baeza: A City of Three Cultures Free Tour
We'll kick off our free tour of Baeza at Paseo Portales Zapatería. After an introduction to Baeza, a member of the 15 Spanish World Heritage Sites, we’ll stroll through its historic center. Our first stop is the scenic Paseo de la Constitución, formerly the city’s market.
We will explore trade in Baeza, unveiling the main goods exchanged by its diverse cultures. Next, we’ll discuss the origins of its University at the Santísima Trinidad Secondary School, where Antonio Machado taught from 1912 to 1919.
Continuing to the Plaza de Santa Cruz, we'll view the church and the Palacio de Jabalquinto, both linked to the three cultures of Baeza. After this, we'll go to the Plaza de Santa María, home to the Cathedral of the Nativity of Our Lady, built on the site of an ancient mosque. The bell tower once functioned as a minaret.
We’ll wander the alleyways rich in Muslim heritage. From a lookout, we’ll enjoy views of the olive groves and conclude with an olive oil tasting at a local establishment. After 1.5 hours, we’ll end the tour at the Plaza del Pópulo, close to our starting point.
