Baeza: A City of Three Cultures Free Tour
The free tour of Baeza begins at number 8 of Portales Zapatería. We will start with an introduction to Baeza, a member of the prestigious list of 15 Spanish World Heritage Sites, followed by a stroll through its historic center, beginning at the Paseo de la Constitución, historically the city's market.
We will explore Baeza's trade history, focusing on the goods exchanged by its diverse cultures, and discuss the origins of its University. A visit to the Santísima Trinidad Secondary School will reveal the classroom where Antonio Machado taught from 1912 to 1919.
Continuing to the Plaza de Santa Cruz, we will view the church and the Palacio de Jabalquinto, both linked to Baeza's three cultures. We will then visit the Plaza de Santa María to see the Cathedral of the Nativity of Our Lady, built on the site of an ancient mosque and featuring a bell tower that served as a minaret.
We will explore the alleyways rich in Muslim heritage and enjoy views of the olive groves. The tour concludes with an olive oil tasting at a local venue, finishing after 1.5 hours at the Plaza del Pópulo.
