The Cathedral of the Nativity of Our Lady of Baeza is a World Heritage Site, and this guided tour will explore its history.
Tour Details
The guided tour starts at the Puerta de la Luna, where we will appreciate the exterior architecture of this masterpiece of European Renaissance architecture. Designed by Andrés de Vandelvira, the monument showcases unique nuances that will be discussed during the visit.
After observing the exterior, we'll enter the interior of the cathedral, notable for its beautiful chapels. Many chapels were commissioned by noble families from Baeza, contributing to the city's overall heritage. The Capilla Dorada (Golden Chapel) is a highlight, especially for its renowned altarpiece.
The tour continues with a visit to the Cathedral Museum, featuring reliquaries, processional books, and other sacred art that illustrate the cathedral's historical and artistic evolution. A key piece is the 'processional monstrance', crafted in gold and silver for the display of the Blessed Sacrament during processions, regarded as one of Spain's top examples of rococo goldsmithing.
The guided tour lasts approximately 45 minutes, after which you can explore your favorite areas of the cathedral independently.
