The Cathedral of the Nativity of Our Lady of Baeza of Jaén is declared a World Heritage Site. You'll discover its history with this guided tour.
Tour Details
The guided tour of Baeza Cathedral begins at the Puerta de la Luna. Participants will appreciate the exterior architecture of this masterpiece of European Renaissance architecture, designed by Andrés de Vandelvira.
After observing the exterior, the tour proceeds to the interior, highlighting its beautiful chapels, many established by noble families from Baeza. The Capilla Dorada (Golden Chapel) is a notable feature, renowned for its altarpiece, considered one of the city's greatest artistic treasures.
The tour includes a visit to the Cathedral Museum, showcasing reliquaries, processional books, and other sacred art that illustrate the historical and artistic evolution of the cathedral. A significant piece is the 'processional monstrance', crafted in gold and silver to display the Blessed Sacrament during processions and noted as one of the top three works of rococo goldsmithing in Spain.
At the end of the guided tour, which lasts approximately 45 minutes, participants may explore favorite areas of the cathedral independently.
