Embark on an enchanting whale watching expedition within the Marino Ballena National Park, where the coastal waters of Uvita become a prime vantage point for observing dolphins and whales.

Activity Overview

We will convene at the specified time at a designated meeting spot in Uvita or opt for the entrance of Marino Ballena National Park, per your preference. From this point, we will proceed to a nearby marina to commence an extraordinary cruise along the picturesque Pacific coast of Costa Rica.

As we navigate through these waters, participants will be treated to glimpses of various species of whales and dolphins engaging in their natural habitat. Alongside these magnificent mammals, the excursion will also allow for sightings of diverse sea turtles that thrive in this vibrant marine ecosystem.

Our journey will lead us to Isla Ballena, where we will anchor near its shores, inviting you to explore the underwater world through snorkeling and a refreshing swim in the clear ocean waters.

After enjoying the aquatic experience, we will regroup on the boat and set course toward another specific location within the marine park, which will be determined based on the day's weather conditions. Reveling in the lush natural scenery is assured!

Ultimately, our expedition will last between 3 to 3.5 hours, culminating with our return to the original meeting point.

Itinerary Note

Bear in mind that, for logistical reasons, the sequence of activities described may be subject to change.

Encountering Whales & Dolphins

The Uvita coastline ranks among the top locations in Costa Rica to observe whales, dolphins, and other cetaceans. However, animal sightings can be unpredictable. The frequency of encounters may fluctuate due to various factors, including prevailing weather conditions and reproductive cycles of the species, particularly notable from December to April and July to October.

Considerations During Rainy Season

It is important to understand that whales are also spotted from July to October, but this period coincides with the region’s rainy season. Consequently, visibility may diminish, and activities such as swimming or snorkeling might be temporarily affected.
