Whale Watching in Bahía Solano
When you make your reservation, you can choose one of the following options. In both options, we'll meet at Carrera 2 in Bahía Solano, in the tourist area of Ciudad Mutis, at the indicated time.
5-hour tour
After attending a brief introductory talk about humpback whales at the meeting point, we'll walk to the beach of Ciudad Mutis to embark. In case of low tide, we'll travel by tuk-tuk or minibus to the dock of Bahía Solano.
During the journey through the waters of the Colombian Pacific, we'll learn interesting facts about these cetaceans. If conditions are favorable, we'll use a hydrophone to listen to the sounds of the whales underwater. We'll also try to spot other animals, such as dolphins, turtles, sailfish, sharks, or seabirds.
While sailing, we will have a snack on board consisting of lemonade or iced tea and cheese bread or a croissant.
After 3-4 hours of whale watching, we'll return to the starting point. The total duration of the activity will be between 4 and 5 hours, depending on tides.
8-hour tour
If you choose this option, after the 5-hour tour, we'll continue to Playa Mecana. If the tide is high, we'll sail to the mouth of the Mecana River. Here, we'll enjoy a lush mangrove forest that serves as a habitat for birds and plants. In case of low tide, we'll disembark on the beach and walk to the Mecana River.
The tour will continue at the home of two natives of the Mecana community, where we'll have a typical lunch including freshly caught fish, patacones or yucca, rice, salad, and soup.
After lunch, we'll rest on the riverbank and then go tubing on the Mecana River. After completing tubing, we'll sail back to the starting point. The total duration will also depend on tides.
