Tour Details
We will meet at the indicated time under the arches of the Paseo Ribeira, just in front of Baiona's Tourist Office. The tour focuses on local legends, including those of the meigas, or Galician witches. We will explore the coastal town and learn about its history, including the Black Plague and the procession of souls known as the Santa Compaña.
Participants will climb to the Cruceiro da Trinidade to learn about protective stone crosses and explore the myths of the mouros, mouras, and trasnos. The story of Santa Liberata, believed to be the first woman ever crucified, will also be shared.
We will discuss Pedro Álvarez de Soutomaior, known as Pedro Madruga, who is speculated by some to be connected to Christopher Columbus. The tour also includes a stroll near Mount Boi, close to the castle of Monterreal, which involves the tale of a mysterious prince in an iron mask.
After 1.5 hours of legends, myths, and local lore, we will return to our starting point to conclude the tour.
