On this private tour of Baiona, Galicia, you'll walk through the old town and along the promenade, admiring the castle of Monterreal and the Virgen de la Roca with an exclusive English-speaking guide.
Description
At the appointed time, we'll meet at Pozo da Aguada to start this private tour of Baiona, a city rich in history.
The tour begins on the seafront promenade with a walk to view Mount Boi and the castle of Monterreal, now a Parador de Turismo Hotel.
We'll continue to admire the Virgen de la Roca, a 49 feet (15 metres) high monument, and explore the house of Pedro Madruga, a significant figure in Baiona's history.
We will share stories about how the news of the Discovery of America reached Baiona via La Pinta, one of Columbus' ships, and discuss the invasions by pirates, including Francis Drake.
Our next stop will be the old town of Baiona, where we'll stroll through narrow streets and pass by important buildings like the Ex Collegiate Church of Baiona in Romanesque-Gothic style and the church of Santa Liberata, both key points on the Portuguese route of the Camino Santiago.
Finally, we will return to the promenade to see the statue of Alfonso IX, marking the end of our two-hour sightseeing tour.
