On this private tour of Baiona, Galicia, you'll walk through the old town and along the promenade, admiring the castle of Monterreal and the Virgen de la Roca, with an exclusive English-speaking guide.
Description
At the appointed time, we'll meet at Pozo da Aguada to start this private tour of Baiona, a city rich in history.
We'll begin on the seafront promenade, enjoying views of Mount Boi and the castle of Monterreal, now a Parador de Turismo Hotel.
As we walk, we'll admire the Virgen de la Roca, a 49-foot (15 meters) high monument, and then visit the house of Pedro Madruga, a significant figure in Baiona's history.
We'll share the story of how the news of the Discovery of America arrived in Baiona via La Pinta, one of Columbus' ships, and also touch on invasions by pirates like Francis Drake.
Next, we'll explore the old town of Baiona, walking through narrow streets past emblematic buildings such as the Ex Collegiate Church of Baiona and the church of Santa Liberata, key stops on the Portuguese route of the Camino Santiago.
Finally, we'll return to the promenade to view the statue of Alfonso IX, marking the conclusion of our two-hour sightseeing tour.
