Valcheta and Petrified Wood Trip
Departure is at 9 am from the center of Las Grutas, traveling along National Route 23, which connects the coast of Río Negro with San Carlos de Bariloche.
During the journey through Argentinean Patagonia, we will learn about the history of local railways and limestone mines. The route takes us to Valcheta, where we will visit its handicraft market and observe the use of matras, a traditional cloth used by gauchos for rugs and boots.
The trip includes a 45-minute hike through the Valcheta Petrified Forest, showcasing fossilized palms and araucarias from the Cretaceous period, approximately 90 million years ago.
Following the hike, we will return to Valcheta to visit the María Inés Kopp Regional Museum, which features unique items, including the sole television set used by the town to watch Argentina win the 1978 World Cup.
Our adventure concludes with a nice outdoor lunch by the Valcheta stream, including appetizers, a starter, salads, a main course, and a selection of French desserts.
After lunch, we will return to Las Grutas, arriving at 5 pm.
