The Government Museum, Bangalore is the second oldest museum in South India and home to several archeological and geological artifacts of historic importance, including Halmidi Shasana, earliest known Kannada inscription. Established in 1865, Government Museum, Bangalore is spread over 2 floors and 18 galleries, providing visitors with a glimpse of ancient history, technology and traditions.

Key attractions are: Paintings under Venkatappa Art Gallery, Sculptures from Hoysala, Nolamba and Gandhara periods Artifacts derived during excavation at Chandravalli, Mohenjodaro, Hampi and Halebeedu. Terracotta artifacts from Mathura (birth place of Lord Krishna), Weapons used by Kodagu warriors, Ancient inscriptions including Begur inscription from 890 AD, Halmidi Shasana from 450 AD, and Atakur inscription from 949 AD, Musical instruments of the past, Scale model of Tipu Sultan’s Fort, Srirangapatna etc
