Explore an imposing fortress in the province of Jaén on this guided tour of Baños de la Encina Castle.

Tour Details

Our tour begins at Burgalimar Castle, a fortress of Umayyad origin located in Baños de la Encina, Jaén. The guided tour of Baños de la Encina Castle lasts approximately 45 minutes and includes an interior visit to witness its solid walled enclosure. Participants will learn about the fortress's history, which occupied a strategic location in the Guadalquivir valley during the Middle Ages, a site of conflict between Muslims and Christians.

A key confrontation, the Battle of Navas de Tolosa, occurred nearby in 1212. Along with viewing the fortified complex, the tour includes a visit to Torre del Homenaje, an additional watchtower constructed after the Christian reconquest. The tour concludes by highlighting other important aspects of the fortress.
