On this guided tour of Bar Harbor, we'll discover the history of the tycoons, smugglers, and pioneers who shaped this town and explore the La Rochelle Mansion, home of the Bar Harbor Historical Society.

Description

At the indicated time, we'll meet in front of the Bar Harbor Historical Society at the La Rochelle Mansion. The guided tour begins inside the mansion, showcasing its Gilded Age architecture, featuring 20 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, and elegant parlors, as we discuss the lifestyle of Bar Harbor's high society.

Next, we will head to the heart of Bar Harbor along West Street, the town's commercial thoroughfare. Here, we will show you the most iconic buildings and share interesting anecdotes about the town, including Rockefeller's construction of over 80 kilometers (49 miles) of carriage paths, the great fire of 1947 that devastated half the city, and the rum trafficking during the Prohibition era.

After 2.5 hours of exploring the town's history, the guided tour will conclude back at the starting point.
