Cardona & Montserrat Small Group Day Trip

Travel back to the 9th century and delve into the Roman vestiges of Cardona Castle, a medieval jewel very close to Barcelona. This trip includes visits to salt mines and local tapas and wines.

Cardona & Montserrat Trip

We'll meet at your hotel in Barcelona at the indicated time and board a bus to the municipality of Cardona. After 1 hour 30 minutes, we'll arrive in this historic town known for the Salt Mountain Cultural Park and one of the best-preserved medieval castles in the country.

Our first stop will be Cardona mountain, a potassium salt mine covering over 100 hectares and one of the most important globally. We'll descend 86 meters to view the ancient stalactites and stalagmites of salt and learn about the valley's industrial history.

Next, we'll visit Cardona Castle, an 886 fortress that combines Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles, offering unique views of the Cardener river valley and the Saline valley.

Our excursion will continue with a guided tour of Cardona's historic centre, which became an important market and meeting point for travelers from southern France and the Pyrenees.

After touring Cardona, we'll proceed to Montserrat, viewing its distinctive jagged peak and visiting the Benedictine monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat, home to the patron saint of Catalonia.

Finally, we'll return to Barcelona, concluding the tour after approximately 10 hours.
