Cardona & Montserrat Small Group Day Trip

Travel back to the 9th century and delve into the Roman vestiges of Cardona Castle, a medieval jewel very close to Barcelona. On this fantastic trip, you will also visit some salt mines and taste local tapas and wines!

Cardona & Montserrat Trip

We'll meet at your hotel in Barcelona at the indicated time and get on a bus to the municipality of Cardona. After 1 hour 30 minutes, we'll arrive in this historic town, famous for being home to the Salt Mountain Cultural Park and one of the best-preserved medieval castles in the country.

Our first stop will be Cardona mountain. With a surface area of more than 100 hectares, this potassium salt mine is one of the most important in the world, and it grows every year! We'll descend 86 metres to contemplate the thousand-year-old stalactites and stalagmites of salt and learn about the history of the industrial exploitation of the valley.

After exploring Salt Mountain, we'll head to Cardona Castle. This 886 fortress, built on the top of a promontory, combines an eminently Romanesque style with Gothic details that will take us back to the Middle Ages. The location of the castle will allow us to enjoy unique views of the Cardener river valley and the Saline valley.

Our excursion will continue with a guided tour of Cardona's historic centre, a trading village that became the centre of an important market and a meeting point for travellers arriving from the south of France and the Pyrenees. You'll enjoy this medieval jewel!

After touring Cardona, we'll head to Montserrat. From a distance, we'll see its unmistakable jagged peak. We'll visit the Benedictine monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat, home to the patron saint of Catalonia.

Finally, we'll head back to Barcelona, where we'll conclude the tour after a total of about 10 hours.
