Cardona & Montserrat Trip
We will meet at your hotel in Barcelona and take a bus to Cardona. The journey lasts 1 hour 30 minutes to reach this historic town known for the Salt Mountain Cultural Park and its well-preserved medieval castle.
First, we will visit Cardona mountain, a significant potassium salt mine covering over 100 hectares that expands annually. We will descend 86 meters to observe ancient salt stalactites and stalagmites, learning about the valley's industrial history.
Next, we will explore Cardona Castle, an 886 fortress showcasing Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Its location offers unique views of the Cardener river valley and the Saline valley.
Our excursion continues with a guided tour of Cardona's historic centre, which served as a marketplace and a waypoint for travelers from southern France and the Pyrenees.
After exploring Cardona, we'll visit Montserrat, where we will see its distinct jagged peak. We will tour the Benedictine monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat, the home of Catalonia's patron saint.
We will then return to Barcelona, concluding the tour after approximately 10 hours.
